Team AyurSangrah was in a toss on penning down the topic for the first post. Discussions, suggestions all got halted post a glimpse at the essay a long time ago authored by Sir C.V. Raman, "Water - The Elixir of Life".
Per different modern literatures water is the basis of all life as we know it; Water is an essential, defining element in human and natural systems which is synonymous with ancient old documented manuscript Ayurveda that quotes water representing soma, the nourishing, cooling quality that is associated with lunar energy.
We have come a long way relating back to humans being in the stone age then to now in the digital era, yet the basics on our regime is somewhere dwindling, when referred to, say in Ayurveda. Per Ayurveda, water when used properly helps balance all the 3 doshas while maintaining the health of all the tissues (dhatus), sustaining life, delaying the ageing process & thus acting like nectar.
Consumption Regime - AyurVeda
Water should be consumed either at room temperature or warm or hot. It is often said, water for consumption should be cooked. Per AyurVeda, by putting fire to the water the properties get transformed, often considered as 'digestible.' This will then stimulate digestion, soothe throat irritations, cleanse the urinary tract, relieve hiccoughs, reduce gut fermentation, gas and bloating and aid in the relief of colds, flu and fever.
It is also noted in ancient manuscripts that
- boiled water to 3/4 of its original volume is said to alleviate Vata.
- boiled water to 1/2 of its original volume balances Pitta.
- boiled water to 1/4 of its original volume alleviates Kapha.
How to cook water?
- Cook your water in the morning right away before your morning routine (Dinacharya), not at night.
- Turn the heat to high and bring a pot of water to a boil.
- Boil for at least 10 minutes or by following the ratios given above
Alternatively, one can leave water overnight in copper, steel, earthen or a gold vessel, which will positively charge it. It is also believed, water in a dark vessel is said to change its properties and decrease its vitality.
Water is one of the three essential basics (air and light being the other two) to the creation and existence of life. On the closing note, there could have been no other topic to start with than water, be it a day or be it our life holding true to its saying that 'where there is water, there is life'.
